The Third Student

Privacy policy

Updated 8 October 2026

The short version: the app has no accounts and no analytics, your progress stays on your phone, and the only thing this website keeps is the email address you give us for the waitlist.

This page covers The Third Student app for iPhone and this website. It explains what each collects, why, who else is involved, and what you can ask us to do.

Who we are

The Third Student is run by Temitope Pinheiro, which is responsible for the information described here. For anything about this policy or your data, write to temitopepinheiro@gmail.com.

In the app

What stays on your phone

  • Your progress through each course, your settings, and which course you were in last.
  • Recordings of the teacher’s voice, kept so lines you’ve already heard play again without a connection.
  • If you’re given a voice-service key during the beta, it’s kept in your iPhone’s secure storage, the Keychain.

None of this is sent to us. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

The microphone and speech recognition

The microphone is only on while a class is in session, and only to hear your answers. Apple’s speech recognition turns what you say into text so the teacher can respond to what you actually said. Apple may process that audio on its servers to do it; if your connection drops, the app asks for recognition on your phone instead. Apple’s handling is covered by Apple’s privacy policy. We never receive or keep a recording of your voice or the text of your answers.

The teacher’s voice

The teachers’ voices are made by ElevenLabs. Some lines come with the app already recorded. For the rest, the app sends the text of the teacher’s line to ElevenLabs and plays back the audio it returns. Those lines are the lesson itself, and sometimes repeat a sentence you just built. We send nothing about you with them; like any request over the internet, ElevenLabs can see the network address it came from.

What the app doesn’t do

There’s no sign-in, no advertising, no tracking across other apps or websites, and no analytics or crash-reporting software in the app. We don’t sell or share your information.

On this website

The waitlist

When you join, we store your email address and when you joined. If you answer the two optional questions, we also store the language you’re interested in and the phone you use. If you arrived through a link with a referral tag in it, we keep that tag, so we know which links bring people here.

We use these details only to tell you about the beta: when your place opens, and occasional news about the launch. We rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. The answers to the optional questions help us decide which languages to open first.

Visit counts

We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics. It doesn’t use cookies and doesn’t identify you; it tells us things like how many people visited and which site sent them.

Cookies

This website doesn’t set cookies.

Who else handles data

  • Apple distributes the app and provides speech recognition.
  • ElevenLabs generates the teachers’ voices from the text of their lines.
  • Vercel hosts this website and counts visits. Like any web host, it processes your network address and browser details to deliver pages and keep the service secure.
  • Our database provider stores the waitlist.

These companies may process information outside your country. We only use providers that commit to protecting it to the standard the law requires.

How long we keep it

We keep waitlist details until the beta has opened to you and the launch is over, or until you ask us to delete them, whichever comes first. When the waitlist has done its job, we delete it.

Your choices and rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or stop our emails, by writing to temitopepinheiro@gmail.com. Every email we send also tells you how to stop them. If you’re in the UK or the EU, you can also complain to your data protection authority; in the UK, that’s the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Children

The Third Student isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has joined the waitlist, write to us and we’ll remove them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Before anything new arrives that handles your information differently, such as accounts or the version for your browser, this page will say so first.
